The Bookplace

A book shop in Corby

By Ian Loveland

This is Bookplace, an independent book shop in Corby town centre in the early 1990s.

Located on the balcony, the bookshop had cool retro branding and packed shelves of treasures to find. This looks like a great place to browse - I wish we still had a bookshop like this in Corby!

I can remember going into this bookshop when it first opened. The shop and everyone in it seemed so chilled out and relaxed, and I can remember seeing all these colourful posters on the walls - which made me think it was somewhere for people to drop in. I bought the book Assertiveness for Women, and I was sad when it closed.

I was one of the people who set the book shop up. Andy Carver is in one of the photos, looks a bit older now! It was a great meeting place for friends and customers. great memories....

I worked as a volunteer in the bookshop when it first opened. I can't remember the name of the young lady who managed it. If anyone can remember,I would be grateful for the information.
